Rooms 8 — 14

Sea-view double

Second floor, west-facing, with the shutters that everybody photographs. Twenty-eight square metres and a terrace just wide enough for two chairs and an argument about dinner.

The room

These were the family bedrooms before the house became a hotel, which is why they are the largest doubles and why the ceilings are the original chestnut. The bed faces the window rather than the door — a decision we have been talked out of twice and reversed both times.

The terrace is private and shaded until about four, after which it becomes the best place in the building. Breakfast can be brought up if you would rather not speak to anyone before ten.
